What is happening
The rapporteur, Minister Regina Helena Costa, accepted the appeal by DNA Soluções em Biotecnologia, headquartered in Mandirituba, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. The company claimed that the ruling by the Regional Federal Court of the 4th Region (TRF4) did not fully address the fundamental rights issue linked to the request, based on chemotaxonomic parameters without the capacity to generate narcotic effects.
DNA Soluções em Biotecnologia, located in Mandirituba, in the greater Curitiba area, specializes in seed development and plant genetic engineering. The company wants to plant hemp on a large scale to serve the pharmaceutical industry. Earlier this year, Paraná made it easier to access cannabidiol-based medicines.
DNA filed a lawsuit claiming the right to import seeds and plant cannabis with higher levels of cannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD), and lower concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive component of the plant.
